Here they learn the power of prayer and the importance of service to their church. They learn to talk to God and ask Him for guidance in their daily lives. They can escape the negative influences they face daily in high school. They can be themselves and feel safe to talk about their worries whether they are big or small. We are trying to plant the seed in their heart and hope to teach that love for God, family, and they neighbors are important in the difficult sometimes scary world we live in.
We all have heard about Daniel and how he survived his stay in the Lion’s Den. However, we should also know how he got there in the first place and how he was able to survive all those times. (Daniel 6) Let’s break it down:
Daniel was an exile living in Babylon. A foreigner forced to live in a land not of his own.
He was recognized by the King due to his exceptional abilities and was given a position of power second only to the King. Imagine a foreigner, and a slave at that, given a cabinet position at the white house.
Because of jealousy, other members of the King’s administrators plotted against him, landing him in the Lion’s den. It’s funny to think that what landed him in the lion’s den was the same thing that saved him, his conviction. His conviction comes from his faith and the hope of a better future as God promised.
How does having conviction, faith, and hope become quality traits of an effective leader?
What gets you up in the morning? What are you hopeful for?
When you’re struggling with your schoolwork, stop and take a short break. During your break, take a short prayer and thank God for something good that recently happened to you. Now get back to what you’re doing, but this time, slow down and break it down into smaller chunks and give it another go.
